Sunil Narine should not open the batting for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) according to former West Indies batsmen Philo Wallace, who has been doing radio commentary for the 2018 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Tournament.

Wallace also called on skipper Dwayne Bravo to give up bowling at the death, as this is hurting the team. Narine who has been used in the IPL to open the batting for the Kolkata Knight Riders has been failing at the top for the TKR this CPL with scores of 19, 7, 4, 9, and 0.

"The TKR has a great team spirit and a never say die attitude that is wonderful. This has come to the fore in their recent matches and this is good of the defending champions. However, having said that, I think they are making some errors in their planning for these matches. Sunil Narine is not batting well at the top and should not be used to open. He is getting out early and this is putting more pressure on the middle order. Even Chris Lynn his fellow opener seems to be feeling the pressure of losing his partner early," explained Wallace.

He continued, "I think that Brendan McCullum should open the batting and Narine should be used as a floater around the middle order."

Former national cricketer Rajendra Mangalie disagrees with Wallace saying that Narine will come good. "TKR has depth in their batting and using Narine at the top is a chance. If it pays off it will be great for the team. At the moment he is not batting well but I am confident that he will come good very soon and all will be forgotten."

The bowling of Bravo has also come under scrutiny with the Chennai Superkings star not returning the figures the TKR fans like. So far he has recorded figures off 3/11 in the opening match against the St Lucia Stars but after that, he was out of his depth going for - 0/59, 1/52, 0/50 and on Sunday one for 46 against the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Wallace believes that Bravo needs to reconsider when he should bowl in the innings.

He said, "Bravo has to understand that he is not bowling well especially at the death. He is a man who takes on a challenge front on but there's a time when you have to hold back a bit and let others do the job. He is bowling at some tricky times and because he is not in form, it is affecting his team. He probably needs to bowl earlier and use someone else at the death."

Wallace's comments were echoed by Mangalie who called for Narine to bowl towards the end of the innings. "Bravo is not bowling well at the moment and he needs to use Sunil at the end. He can probably get in a few overs up front but leave Sunil to deal with the final overs. He (Sunil) may get hit for the odd six or four but they will not be able to hammer him the way they have been treating Bravo."

TKR with three wins and two losses has a few days break before playing Barbados Tridents in their next game on Sunday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
