Hughes treble keeps Guaya in hunt

Carlon Hughes fired in a hat-trick to leads defending champions Guaya United to a 4-1 spanking of Matura ReUnited when the T&T Super League continued on Sunday at the Guaya Recreation Ground.

Hughes opened the scoring in the 21st minute for his team to lead 1-0 at the half-time interval before former national striker, Gary Glasgow made it 2-0 in the 58th.

Hughes then completed his treble with strikes in the 71st and 86th minutes for a 4-0 advantage before Kerwin Vincent got a consolation item for Matura ReUnited, in the 86th.

With the win, Guaya United improved to 25 points from 12 matches, level with Cunupia FC and two behind joint leaders, FC Santa Rosa and Queen’s Park Cricket Club.

Cunupia FC missed out on a chance to remain in a three-way after playing to a goalless draw with Prison Service at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

In other matches on Sunday, Police came from behind to beat the University of T&T 2-1; RSSR FC and Club Sando Cultural United drew 1-1, while the match between Bethel United and Petit Valley/Diego Martin United at Mt Pleasant Recreation Ground, Mt Pleasant.
