Mangallie, Jaggessar pump $$$ into T20 tournament
Former national cricketer turned businessman Rajendra Mangallie is creating waves with his T20 tournament in collaboration with the Jaggessar group of companies.
The tournament which is called the Mangallie Trading Jaggessar Group T20 bowls off next Saturday and the first prize on offer is $20,000. Mangallie said that this tournament is organised in similar fashion to the IPL with cheerleaders, fireworks and the overall set-up will be professionally done.
This year’s tournament gets underway on June 9 and a number of teams have already registered. According to Mangallie: "We have been progressing nicely with our planning for this year’s tournament and again we have been getting the required support in terms of sponsorship to make it another truly magnificent tournament.” Last year’s tournament was won by Central Trinidad Touring team.
This time around, the organisers have decided against allowing T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) Premiership division players from participating in the tournament. Mangallie explained: "Championship players in addition to Premiership players will not be able to play in the tournament this year. We will allow two under-19 national players to participate, as well as all the other under-19 players who have not been selected this year to play for T&T. All Zonal players can participate in the tournament. We want to give others who might not get a regular chance to play, an opportunity to come to this tournament to showcase themselves.”
Mangallie was full of praise for fellow sponsor Sudesh Jaggessar saying: "Sudesh has been wonderful in terms his support of this tournament and we are going to make this year even better than last year. He wants, just like me to see people develop and this tournament will do just that.”
Teams wishing to play still have a few days to indicate their availability by calling 310-7937, 647-8582, 740-5569, 665-2089.
