Political activist removed from PNM meeting
Social activist Ishmael Samad was bodily thrown out of last night's People's National Movement's political meeting by police, after he interrupted the event to complain about the poor state of some of the country's roads.
Samad, who was seated in the La Horquetta Regional Complex hall, got up holding a newspaper outlining a story of the poor condition of the Guaico Tamana Road when Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan was about to address constituents, causing the meeting to be disrupted.
Immediately, two police officers approached Samad and asked him to leave, which he refused to do, throwing himself on the ground, as constituents demanded that he leave.
Samad had to be bodily lifted outside by the officers and told not to return to the meeting.
Speaking to reporters following the incident, Samad said he wanted to express his displeasure at the deplorable state of some of the country's roads while Government was constructing a highway which we did not need. He said the roads have millions of potholes and were not being repaved.
"I was thrown out of the meeting like a flipping dog. The police manhandled me, bruising my arms in the process. I am not going to take this lightly, I intend to plant myself in front of the Prime Minister's office for my plight to be highlighted."
