PM to undecided voters: T&T needs people with experience

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is urging undecided voters to stick with her experienced slate of candidates since they have the capacity to weather the tough economic times T&T currently faces.

While she welcomed the new and fresh faces on the People’s National Movement’s (PNM) slate to the campaign trail, Persad-Bissessar said now was not the time to “take a chance” on someone new.

“Given the troubled waters with falling oil prices, now is not the time to give a chance to somebody to try something,” Persad-Bissessar declared as she addressed supporters on Friday night at Cumuto Recreation Ground, Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore.

Eager supporters waved flags and cheered loudly.

The PNM, she said, threw out its candidates who have “the experience to run a government” and opted for fresh faces.

She said what the country needs at this time was people who can steer the economy through the economic challenges of falling oil prices.

“We cannot make that mistake to give them a chance to try a thing, not in these times. You have to ask the big question: Will they have the experience and the capacity to steer the ship in these economic times?”

Persad-Bissessar also announced that she will turn the sod next week for construction of the $6 billion Mitsubishi dimethyl ether (DME) and methanol project in La Brea.

She urged voters, who are yet to make up their mind, to think hard about the choice they have to make because it is not only their future, but the future of T&T that depends on them.
