Warner asks for info on Chaguanas tenants

National Security Minister Jack Warner has asked his Chaguanas West constituents to provide him with the names of people renting properties in the area, especially those who are renting alone. He also wants them to submit names to the police so they can do background checks.

The minister made the call after Chaguanas mayor Orlando Nagessar said he had received complaints from residents of Felicity about unsavory characters moving into the area. Nagessar said just last week a villager was robbed of his SUV at gunpoint at his Cacandee Road home.

The mayor said residents are blaming criminal activity in the area to the large number new tenants there. He said villagers suspect criminals from various parts of T&T are moving into vacant apartments and using them as a base to stalk potential targets. Nagessar said some landlords are not doing background checks on tenants and allowing “anybody and everybody to creep into the community”.
