Sando cops hunt for robbery gangs
Police are hunting for two gangs of robbers who stole valuables from pedestrians in San Fernando early yesterday morning. The first robbery occurred around 12.30 am at Prince of Wales Street. Mervyn Singh, 49, of Roy Joseph Street, was walking home when six men surrounded him and demanded cash. When Singh said he had no money, he was robbed of his cellular phone valued at $160.
Four hours later, Zameer Mohammed, 23, of Bertrand Street, was also walking along Coffee Street, when two men and a woman surrounded him. One of the men grabbed him by the neck and the other snatched his wallet from his pocket. It contained $300 as well and his personal documents. Mohammed was also robbed of two gold chains valued at $1,100.
He escaped after the robbery and went to the San Fernando Police Station where he made a report. PC Gervais and WPC Valdez responded but the thieves could not be found. Investigations are into both incidents are continuing.
